-I'm about to get 1998 beetle.

It has 120,000 miles on it and I mean, it seems like a good car.

My Altima has over 200,000 miles on it and I'm needing a new car.

Are these beetles reliable?,the other answerer had some good information, I would go to carcomplaints.com and check to dee what is on the worst cars to own list and make sure to stay away from a car on the list. The vw beetles while a good design when new, has always left something to be desired when it comes to longevity issues. In this case, the newer it is, and the lower the mileage the longer its going to last. I have noticed there are a lot more complaints about blown head gaskets, and transmissions once past the 80,000 mile mark, and that vehicle is no nissan your Altima is miles ahead of its competition in terms of longevity and durability. NO VW has ever laid claim to beating the nissan for durability and toughness of the altima. Buy another altima before another bug is a better bet these days, The mileage is way past the point of buying a Volkswagen its going to need something major soon. Your little altima will be running long after the bug has gone. The Volkswagen New Beetle was the cute car that started the retro-futurist design craze. It was a modernized version of the legendary VW Beetle and struck a chord with consumers who had grown tired of standard conservative car designs and had fond memories of the "Bugs" from their youth.

But that was 1998. As more than a decade passed without a major redesign, the New Beetle started to seem like a retro version of itself. With sales dropping steadily, VW decided to discontinue the New Beetle for 2010.

A redesigned model is finally being readied for next year. In the meantime, you'll find plenty to choose from for a used New Beetle. It didn't change much, so you can shop mostly on price, though paying attention to engine availability through the years will likely be useful.
No, according to Consumer Reports, which lists the VW new Beetle among the "worst of the worst" in terms of reliability over multiple years. The Golf is a much better (and "Recommended") model. If you want a cute little car, try to find a Toyota Echo (CR "Best of the Best"). That would be my personal choice if I were in the market for a newer car.
UR ALTIMA WILL PROBABLY OUTLIVE THAT BEETLE, GOOD LUCK
